Samson Obialor Onu is a gifted teacher. He is an alumnus National Teachers’ Institute, Kaduna (NTI), and the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He holds degrees from two disciplines – English Language and Music, a blend of which makes him outstanding in the sphere of creative and performing arts. Correspondingly, he is renowned for his skills in oratory, acting, and general showmanship. In his portfolio are numerous degrees. He holds a Teachers’ Grade II certificate (2005), National Certificate in Education (2006), Diploma in Music Education (2011), Bachelor’s Degree in Music (2013), Master’s Degree in Music Education (2016) and is presently running his Doctorate Degree in Music Education University of Nigeria. With his primary area of interest in teaching, Samson has over twenty years of teaching experience at various levels of education. The personality of Samson is multifaceted: He is a scholar, critic, performer and is experienced in administration and management.
As a scholar, he has attended many conferences and has several publications to his credit. As an English educator, his area of interest is in Phonetics and Phonology; and Semantics. As a critic, he examined and reviewed several creative works within the artistic milieu. As a music educator his areas of interest includes: singing, research, music criticism, music pedagogy, career education, music entrepreneurship and African music and as a performer, he has performed with various performing groups including the Western and African Instrumental Ensembles of the Department of Music, UNN. Not lagging behind in administration, Samson Obialor Onu has held several leadership positions, especially at the university level where he once served as the president of the Music Students’ Association of Nigeria (MUSAN), Nsukka Chapter, 2012/2013 session.
